Mirror repair and replacement in Ottawa

Mirror Repair & Replacement

Centennial Glass assesses damaged mirrors, replaces mirror glass and fabricates new custom mirrors when the original cannot be saved. Where practical, we can work with an existing frame, mounting location or design so the replacement fits the space.

An honest assessment first

Can the mirror be repaired—or should it be replaced?

Damage to the mirror glass itself usually cannot be made invisible. Cracks, deep scratches, chips in the viewing area and deterioration of the reflective coating generally call for replacement glass. The useful parts around the mirror, however, may still be reusable.

Do not handle or transport a cracked mirror unless it can be done safely. Send photos first when the glass is loose, badly cracked or unusually large.

Mirror glass replacement

A new mirror can be cut to the required dimensions and finished for the existing opening or wall.

Existing frame assessment

A sound rectangular or square frame may be suitable for new mirror glass, subject to its construction, depth and condition.

Mounting and hardware

Loose clips, channels, backing or hanging hardware can be assessed separately from the mirror glass.

New custom solution

When matching the original is not practical, Centennial can plan a new frameless or framed mirror for the space.

Replacement options for the mirror you already have

The right approach depends on the type of mirror, how it is mounted, the condition of any frame and whether the replacement must match an existing installation.

What the damage tells us

Common mirror problems

Photos help distinguish a problem with the mirror glass from a problem with its frame, backing or installation.

Crack extending from a chipped edge of a bathroom mirror

Cracks & Chips

Cracked mirror glass and significant edge damage are normally replaced rather than repaired.

Blackened and cloudy edges caused by deterioration behind mirror glass

Black or Cloudy Edges

Darkening and spotting often indicate deterioration behind the reflective coating. Replacement is usually the durable answer.

Visible scratches and localized coating damage on a wall mirror

Scratches & Coating Damage

Surface scratches and damage visible through the reflection cannot usually be polished away without affecting the mirror.

Framed mirror pulling away from its upper wall mounting

Loose Mirror or Frame

The mounting method, wall condition, backing and frame can be assessed to determine what must be renewed.

Custom irregular mirror with a broken curved edge

Broken Custom Shape

Templates, dimensions and the original installation help determine whether a custom-shaped replacement can be fabricated.

Water-related coating deterioration and a small impact mark on a bathroom mirror

Impact or Water Damage

We look beyond the visible break to the surrounding frame, substrate and installation before recommending replacement.

We assess the glass, frame, mounting method, shape, access and whether parts of the original can reasonably be reused.

Confirm the Solution

Centennial confirms replacement dimensions, edge finish, safety backing, framing and installation requirements.

Fabricate & Install

The new mirror is prepared for the approved design and installed or made ready for pickup, as arranged.

  • Close-up photos of the damage

  • Glass size or outside frame size
  • Photos of the frame and hardware
  • The wall, vanity or room around it
  • Your Ottawa-area location
  • Any access or removal concerns

Mirror repair and replacement questions

Frequently asked questions

Can a cracked mirror be repaired?

A crack in the mirror glass cannot normally be made invisible or restored to its original strength. The usual solution is to replace the mirror glass and assess whether the existing frame or mounting can be retained.

Can you replace the glass in my existing mirror frame?

Often, yes, when the frame is structurally sound and can safely accept replacement mirror glass. Centennial will need to assess the frame construction, opening, depth and condition before confirming.

Can black edges or desilvering be repaired?

Dark edges and spots usually come from deterioration of the reflective coating behind the glass. Because the damage is within that mirror system, replacing the glass is generally more reliable than attempting a cosmetic repair.

Can you replace a custom-shaped mirror?

Centennial can assess many custom mirror shapes. Accurate dimensions, a usable template or the original piece may be needed, and feasibility depends on the shape, edge details and installation.

Do you remove and install replacement mirrors?

Installation can be arranged for suitable projects. Size, location, access, wall condition, mounting method and the safe removal of the existing mirror all form part of the assessment.

Do you replace commercial mirrors?

Yes. Centennial can assess mirror replacement for gyms, studios, retail environments, offices, washrooms and other commercial spaces, including large or multi-panel installations.
